Novato Cosmetic Dentist Office Describes the Zoom® Teeth Whitening Process

Written by Dr. McConnell on Jul 28, 2014

There are a number of reasons why your teeth may become dull and discolored over time. Age, stain-producing food, drink, and tobacco can cause your teeth to lose their bright, youthful appearance. Fortunately, a cosmetic dentist has many options for teeth whitening that restore the appearance of your beautiful smile. One very effective treatment used at our Novato Cosmetic Dentist Office is Zoom® Whitening. This custom teeth whitening process is very effective and widely used to whiten and brighten discolored tooth enamel.

Is Zoom® Whitening Right for You?

Before deciding if Zoom® in-office teeth whitening is right for you, we will discuss your oral hygiene routine and conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to ensure your overall oral health. We will also talk to you about your expectations for whitening so that we are sure to provide the exact results you desire.

The Zoom® Whitening System

We recommend that patients schedule a regular cleaning with our dental hygienist prior to the Zoom® teeth whitening session. A professional dental cleaning at our Novato Cosmetic Dentist Office removes any buildup of plaque and tartar so you can be sure you enjoy the full benefit of the whitening process.

After your teeth have been professionally cleaned, we start the whitening treatment by protecting your lips and gums, leaving only the teeth exposed. A hydrogen peroxide-based gel is then carefully applied to the tooth enamel. The Zoom® teeth whitening system uses a special bleaching light fitted with an infrared filter to minimize the amount of heat to which your teeth are exposed. Once the light is in position it illuminates all the teeth being treated. Immediately following the bleaching treatment, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride gel is applied to the teeth. The entire process takes about an hour.

Post Treatment Guidelines

After your in-office teeth whitening procedure is complete, we will give you a Zoom® touch-up kit to take home (including custom-fit whitening trays) and instructions as to how the kit should be used. We also provide you with a list of stain-producing foods and beverages that should be used in moderation to maintain the whitening effects of the Zoom® treatment.
