Having a traditional dental crown placed can be a time-consuming process requiring at least two visits to the dental office. Fortunately, advances in dental technology now make it possible for CEREC Dentistry in Novato to offer one-day crowns that eliminate the inconvenience associated with the placement of traditional crowns.
With traditional crowns, the patient has to sit through two appointments. The first involves reshaping of the natural tooth and taking an impression of the tooth. A temporary crown is made for the patient to wear for a couple weeks while the permanent crown is fabricated at a dental lab. During the second appointment, the permanent crown is checked for fit and cemented in place.
Benefits of Using CEREC Crowns
CEREC Dentistry in Novato can actually fabricate the permanent crown in our office during your first (and only) appointment. This single visit includes shaping of the tooth as usual. After this step, an image is taken of your tooth with an infrared camera, and this image is then input to a computer program so that your dentist can actually view a model of your tooth to aid in constructing your CEREC Crowns.
Placing a CEREC Crown is usually an efficient process with very little stress to the patient. However, some patients who are generally anxious about dental visits may feel some anxiety about the procedure. Contact the Novato Dentist, and we will be happy to arrange a consultation beforehand to decide if sedation is an appropriate option for you.

A milling machine is used to fabricate your permanent crown from a single block of porcelain. The crown is cleaned and polished, refined to fit perfectly, and secured in your mouth. Usually this entire process takes about two to three hours to complete.
