Novato Dental Implants Dentist Describes Cone Beam Imaging

Written by Dr. McConnell on Mar 3, 2015

Patients of the Novato Dental Implants Dentist can now enjoy the benefit of state-of-the-art dental technology with Cone Beam CT imaging (CBCT). CBCT imaging provides the most detailed and complete information possible, allowing us to accurately plan your dental treatment.

What is Cone Beam Imaging Used For?

CBCT is used to measure the quantity and quality of bone for dental procedures. It is especially useful for placing dental implants and treating TMJ issues. CBCT also makes it easy to determine if a tooth, gums or other tissue is infected and allows for accurate treatment planning.

It even helps our dentist see tiny cavities and identify potential orthodontic problems since it shows us different angles and magnifications. It even allows us to see the relationships between bones, teeth, airways, nerves and tissues so we can plan out highly accurate treatment plan.

How Does CBCT Work?

It’s referred to as a “Cone Beam” because the scanner projects digital x-rays in a carefully controlled, cone-shaped beam. The system uses a digital x-ray scanner mounted on a rotating arm. The scanner moves in one complete circle around your head. You simply sit back in the chair while the scanner does the rest.

CBCT combines low-dose radiation imaging with high-quality 3D diagnostic imaging. CBCT imaging fits your busy schedule because it’s fast, easy and totally painless. It takes between 10 and 70 seconds to complete the scan and provide us with computer-generated views of oral/facial bone structure in 3D and in color.

With the level of detail provided with the Cone Beam CT scanner we can easily determine if you have enough bone to support a dental implant, or if a bone graft will be necessary prior to beginning your dental implant procedures.
