We all take special care to clean our smiles every morning and night—and that’s great. But what if there were a few simple things that you could do during the day to improve your oral health eve more? Keep reading to learn more from our Novato dentists…
After lunch…
Take the time to clear away any dental debris and food particles that may be stuck between your teeth. You really want to limit the amount of time that oral bacteria are able to feed on food and drink remnants. Remember—oral bacteria love sugar and refined carbohydrates!
Every hour…
Take a few minutes and drink some water to rehydrate and refresh your smile. Obviously, hydration is key to overall health and wellness. However, it affects oral health specifically; when you are adequately hydrated, your body is able to produce plenty of saliva, which works to re-mineralize enamel. If you are someone who struggles to drink enough water every day, try setting a timer to stay on track.
Set a time…
To consume acidic or sweet beverages, and try to stick to your schedule. Be mindful about how and when you consume potentially harmful beverage, like soft drinks, juice, and coffee. It is better for your smile if you consume these things in time-limited sittings, rather than sipping throughout the day. Remember, we want to limit the amount of time that oral bacteria have to use these substances as fuel.
Try incorporating some of these steps into your daily routine, and see how much fresher and cleaner your mouth feels day to day! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Novato dentists with any questions or concerns you may have. We are here to help!
