Written by Dr. McConnell on Jan 3, 2023

When you aren’t in love with your smile, it can seem overwhelming to plan out a smile makeover. Where do you even begin?

Well, that’s where our Novato bioesethetic dentists come in. It is our job to give you all of the information you need about various treatments, and to guide you toward the best decisions for your smile, specifically.

We have put together this short overview of first steps you can take to get your smile back on track.

Get on schedule with preventive treatments

It is all too easy to fall behind on your dentist-recommended schedule of professional cleanings. The general recommendation from the American Dental Association is that patients complete cleanings every six months or so. If it has been a long time since you have been in to see your dentist, take this opportunity to get these appointments on the books.

Address dental damage

The next step is to seek treatment for any existing oral health issues, like cavities, gum disease, and cracked/chipped teeth. Obviously, this immediately improves your dental aesthetics. And, more importantly, it prevents oral health issues from becoming more serious—and thus difficult and expensive to treat. Don’t feel like you need to do everything at once—at the very least have dental infections or damage taken care of expediently.

Perfect your at-home oral hygiene routine

Take a look at your daily oral hygiene routine and try to pinpoint areas that you can improve. It is probably time to swap out your current toothbrush for a fresh one, for example; you want to use a new brush every 3-4 months and after illness. Talk to your dentist if you need recommendations when it comes to toothpaste our mouth rinse formulations; there are a wide variety on the market to meet all kinds of needs!
