It used to be that patients suffering from tooth loss didn’t have many options to restore their smiles—treatments were limited to choosing between dentures and bridges. Now, however patients have expanded options thanks to dental implant technology. Keep reading to learn more from our Novato dental implant dentists.
What is dental implant technology?
When we talk about “dental implant technology” we are primarily referring to the technological advancement that allows our team to permanently insert titanium screws or posts in the patient’s jawbone and gum tissue. Essentially, this small post acts as a replacement tooth root, holding the visible restoration in place. Why titanium? Titanium is unique in that it is able to actually bond with natural bone tissue over time.
What are my options?
Every dental implant restoration is customized to suit the patient’s needs. You can use a single implant root with a single restoration in order to replace an individual tooth. Alternatively, you may choose to use just a few strategically placed mini implant roots to hold a larger dental prosthetic, like a denture, in place.
What is the treatment process like?
The treatment process is quite different for full-sized dental implants as opposed to mini implants. Mini implants are much thinner than conventional posts, so it does not take very long for the patient’s jaw tissue to heal post-implantation. Mini implant treatment can often be completed in just a few appointments, while full-sized implant treatment is completed over several months. Your dental team will be able to help you determine which type of replacement tooth treatment is right for you.
